Meet the Artist

Jerome A. Sloan is a self-taught Portland artist whose work is rooted in transformation, accountability, and the belief that people can grow beyond the worst moments of their lives. After serving 28 years in prison, Jerome was granted clemency by Oregon Governor Kate Brown with a mandate that became central to his purpose: return to the community he once helped harm and become part of its healing. Today, he carries out that responsibility through restorative justice, community work, mentorship, and art.

For Jerome, art is more than something to look at—it is another form of restorative practice. His work combines bold geometry, symbolism, culture, and elements of science to explore accountability, connection, healing, and personal growth. Through collections such as Circles: The Geometry of Restoration, Jerome uses his gift as an artist to share the same message that guides his life: our past may shape us, but it does not have to define who we become. His art invites people to look inward, recognize their connection to others, and imagine what becomes possible when accountability is followed by healing, growth, and restoration.
