The Heisenberg Equation

The Heisenberg Equation explores the uncertainty and complexity that exist within every person and every restorative justice process. The figures gathered in the circle represent different aspects of restoration: accountability, repairing harm, willingness to help, personal growth, and reconnection with community. Each person carries a different story, yet healing requires them to come together and recognize how their lives affect one another.

The Heisenberg equation becomes a visual metaphor for the uncertainty of transformation—sometimes we cannot know exactly where a person’s journey will lead, but we can influence the direction through accountability, connection, and healing. The broken bowl represents harm that has occurred and the possibility of repair, while the bridge emerging from the circle represents reentry and reconnection with community. The Heisenberg Equation invites the viewer to consider how understanding ourselves and taking responsibility for our actions can change the trajectory of our lives.
